SDS demands change
On the day after the November 2020 election, protestors took to the streets. Denouncing President Donald Trump and demanding that President-elect Joe Biden do more. The night ended with 646 protestors cited and released on Interstate 94 by Riverside Avenue. Three of those protestors are members of the student group called Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) at the University of Minnesota campus.
Documenting artists’ pain
After a summer of social unrest in 2020, the calls for justice, change, and healing persists. Faculty and students at the University of St. Thomas hope to preserve the moment for future generations.
TedxMinneapolis virtual adaption
Every year, TEDxMinneapolis hosts an annual TEDx event that brings 500 people to places like the Cowles Center for Dance in downtown Minneapolis to hear ideas from the Minneapolis community. This year, the pandemic changed TEDxMinneapolis’ plans but didn’t stop them from putting on a virtual event from Friday, Oct. 23 to Sunday, Oct. 25.
The call to support the undocumented
During the spring of 2020, almost 200,000 undocumented immigrants and mixed-status families in Minnesota had limited access to financial assistance and resources, especially college students. Nonprofits and advocacy organizations wanted state officials to do more during the coronavirus pandemic.
